Day seventeen, Nounea, New Caledonia
Viva la France! This french colony is very european, french cars, french people, french cheese and european prises or maybe even more expencive. Oh-la-la!
This rather large island north east of New Zealand, is still a french colony, and it shows! Run on tourism, mining, agriculture and maybe a little french subsidies it holds a high standard. Maybe too high. It is infact so expencive that renting a car for two days was actually cheeper than taking the buss! We still managede to find a reasonable hotel close to the main beach of the capital Noumea.
I guess the fauna, with it's very mediteranian looking pine trees it gave a certain feeling of being back in europe, although the 30 degree temperature and clear Pacific waters (also holding about 30degrees) sort of brought us back to the reality of being somewhere close to the equator surrounded by water as far as eye can see.
